Anyone familiar with the "shortest" route between Trona and Tecopa?

MapQuest shows a Randsburg Wash Road to Randsburg Road to Owl Springs Road. Unfortunately it appears to be on a gerrymander of land connecting China Lake Naval Station to Fort Irwin Military Reservation.

I haven't bought hard copy maps of the area yet. Anybody know it? Any former military that can at least give us some vicarious thrills by describing it?

I was out at the Pinnacles south of Searles Lake and was taking the back trail towards 395 when we ran across a pretty good road running northwest and southeast. We took it a way southeast but came to a guarded gate with 2 rentacops with at least one long gun, so we turned around. Looks like our government is still handing victories to the terrorists. I'm tempted to go back and ask the guards if there's any civilian acceess.

When I was stationed at Fort Irwin decades ago we took an M151A... west near the north edge where all the shot up old vehicles were. I'm thinking we may have been on Randsburg Road, but we turned south towards Goldstone long before we got to Trona Rd. We never saw a soul but we were on active duty in a military vehicle so no trouble with civilian law enforcement but we weren't in contact with range control...:whistling:]

No way thru on that road with out trespassing on China lake and Ft Irwin. If you must, will have to go thru Goler/Mengal Pass/Warm Springs and out. Shortest way with out trespassing, but may not be the fastest.
