Does the short shoe go fore or aft? The piece that spins the adjuster wheel is pointed down and is digging a groove in the drum. Thanks

Got the shoes right. The pin in big shoe is real loose and allowing the adjuster to sag. I think. New shoes from auto zone.

Been there, done that, bought the t-shirt.

The guide that the cable runs through has a nub on the backside that centers it in a hole in the rear shoe. One of the springs goes through the hole in this guide and holds it tight to the shoe. If the guide isn't seated properly into the hole in the shoe, it will cause the cable to be loose and the adjuster arm will hang low and dig a groove into the drum. In my case, the spring was a little tweaked and wouldn't hold the guide centered in the hole.

my whole spring assembly came undone once on a yj. had the adjuster fused with the cable and only half springs where they'd worn on the drum. that was nice....
