rear Diff question...

been noticing a tell tale movement in the drivetrain, from what i can tell from the seat of my pants its from the rear driveshaft back. If I take a slow corner i can hear/feel a clunk, like something is shifting. With the tires still on the ground i went from front to back checking play at all the track bars, TRE, shock mounts, sway bars, control arm bushings...everything seems tight by hand. The only movement i get is at the rear diff. If i grab the top of the rear tire, either side, and push pull, i can get the axle shafts to move and rock in the carrier, better than a 1/4" of movement. not sure what is normal play. Its a D44, I thought the splines and axle seals held it tighter than that, but am not sure.

Both sides do it which leads me to believe it is somewhat normal. Usually things don't materialize on both sides at the same time

At this point I would say take the rear cover of an inspect it.

i was gonna do a diff service before winter comes, i'm just not sure, outside of something being blatantly wrong, how much the tolerances or play there is in axle bearings and gears
