Hi all,

I am trying to figure out how to take apart the shifting assembly on a 12 JKU auto trans. My letters do not light up at night and I am thinking there should be some soft of bulb underneath. I searched the internet and forums here and cannot find what I am looking for. Any help is appreciated!

my light started flickering at around 3000 miles and went out completely a few thousand later.

I wiggled connections the last time I had the center console out, no joy. I doubt you have a burned out bulb, it is probably a bad connection like mine. the faceplate is a contained unit that is probably a huge pain to pull apart, so I would start looking for the wiring to it and maybe read wires.

the center console is REALLY easy to remove. the hardest part is removing the t-case knob. the whole thing just sorta pops off after that.

Hey Guys, any resolution to this OLD thread? I got a 2012 JKU, over the weekend in our 30" of snow, went out for a cruise and noticed my Auto trans indicator lights were not on any more..The dim green ones by the shifter.....I looked in my manual, and it actually shows a bulb number 268 for a replacement for the auto shifter light. I'm assuming this is the area they are talking about(next to the shifter lever), but where is this lamp actually located and it it a pain to replace?? I still have to indicators for the gear position on the dash, so really you don't even need these dim ones by the shifter, it's just bothering me now with no light down by the shifter. Is it worth ripping things apart?

Auto trans indicator light LED replacement

This is an old thread...but a continuous problem. Super Bright LEDs (google them) makes a replacement LED bulb that works great! I have a 2012 JKU and the manual calls for a 658 bulb...that is wrong! It is actually a much smaller 2721 bulb. You can get them at NAPA or order the LED replacement.

Replacing the bulb is simple...the hardest part is removing the 4x4 shift knob (search for how to videos on youtube). After removing the knob, just gently pry up the console cover...it pops right off. The small bulb is under the left side of the PRND indicator. Give it a 1/4 turn and pull it out. Its an easy fix and I HIGHLY recommend the LED upgrade. I used cool white for mine. If you need more info, PM me.
