Walbro Bundy fitting allowed fuel pressure check without cutting line.
Reading 23 psi. Does not start as quick as it used to. Runs OK for about an hour then dies. Pumping the gas peddle sometimes keeps it running.

Seem to have options, I have replaced the fuel pump more than 10 years ago. One could just replace the pump only, that costs less than half what the entire fuel sender unit costs. That is what I did last time but memory is very foggy.

Be careful to get the right fuel sender unit if that is your choice. 19 gallon units are not compatible with more common, I think, 15 gallon tanks.

Is this a common problem? Would a 23 psi pump cause the engine to die after an hour or so? Why does cooling off make it work again?

This will be my third dive into the gas tank. Last year the fuel line apparatus gave out in the area of the gas tank. Smelled fuel and found rapid dripping close to the gas tank.

Did you use a Bosch fuel pump? 19 gallon tanks have been standard since 1999.

Ordered a Bosch fuel unit. Installed a Bosch last time as well. Diving into the fuel tank is no fun. Expecially when it had a thick armor plate. Glad I removed that.

Not really convinced that in tank fuel pumps make sense. Always thought that some day people might react to their nonsense and quit buying their cars when possible. People reacted alright - by buying trucks and SUVs.

Blessing in disguise. Losing my Jeep has me working on the Sammy buggy again. Installing a header and removing one of the two mufflers makes me want to drive again. Just need to remove 3 of the 6 leafs from the leaf springs so the ride is not so bone jarring.

FWIW - the "15 gallon tanks" are a bit of a scam. They just installed a long overflow tube that convinced the fuel pumps that the tank was full when it had 15 gallons. I snipped off a few inches of the overflow tube and now have an 18 or 19 gallon tank.

I'll mention the 05-06 pump is different from earlier TJ years and runs at higher pressure due to some emissions system change in 05-06.
