We will be traveling down the old El Dorado Trail to the Colorado River on the AZ side, and should end up near Nelsons Landing. This a 13 mile back country route that was once used by travelers headed from AZ to the Mining District near Nelson, NV back in the days when the mines were in operation. There was at one time an old pull platform ferry that crossed the Colorado River to allow miners and other travelers a way to cross into NV. This should be an easy but interesting run. We'll run into some soft sandy areas, and when we get to the River remember the muddy area is hard to see, so don't get stuck. Bring a lunch and snacks, and plenty of water. The return trip we will go out a different way with the trail ending at Nelson and air up at the country store.
Meetup 22 Feb will be at Wagon Wheel Shell Station 0800 show 0830 Go!!! Should be all finished at Nelson before 3 P.M.
Thank you for the invite, but nada here. Currently have my front driveshaft up at Dan's (had some sick harmonic vibes post lift and between Vegas 4x4 and Dan's working the troubleshooting all day today...found it be some / a bad joint on the OEM front drive shaft). So...I'm rear wheel drive only right now. I will say that I ran the Gap this past Sunday from west to east and the trail is in good shape.
And as a bynote, there was a Lexus SUV (model escapes me) parked at the Red Rock summit. I know he came in from the Park side (and didn't go through the rock garden), but still...
Interested in Rocky Gap but a bit intimidated from what I have seen, read and been told. When I was stock I drove as far as I could from the Red Rock side to see it first hand and then turned back. I now have a 4" lift with stock arms, 35s, narrow front bumper and have climbed a few waterfalls around the Spring Mountains, trails I would call Class IV, maybe brief Class V. Not afraid of scrapes and scratches but don't want to thrash the Rubi. Thoughts? How long and what direction would you take it?
Your rig would have no prob making it through. I would be more than happy to help give pointers on the trail through the rock garden section. The first time I ran this trail my rig was stock and made it with no issues or scrapes to rig. I'll be running in west to east (back side from canyon to red rock side) should take 3 to 4 hours meet up at the gas station on blue diamond at 9 am leave for trail at 930
I wish I could go Saturday AM but not available until after noon. I have done Rocky Gap trail up and back on the Red Rock side but have not crossed over the Potato Ridge portion so I am not qualified to lead, just hoping to run it with someone who can guide me through.
