Hi everybody, my wife and I are trying to decide between a 2000-2004 Wrangler Rubicon or possible sport or sahara model. I know the Rubicon is the super offroad setup, just wondering how much off road capability we would be losing by going with a model other than a Rubicon?

We live in the pacific northwest and our intended use would be for out at our camp. Logging trails, and some other choppy trails for exploring.

Thanks!

keeping it all stock or modding it? keeping it stock i'd stick with a Rubicon. going to be putting some better parts on it look for a Sport with a D44 rear. Save money on the Rubicon if you're going to be replacing the parts any way. but if you're not turing a wrench on it start out with as much as you can afford or want.

Off hand I would say to go with the Rubicon. It is already a great off roading machine while its stocks. If you intend to mod it you would already have a great base with 44 axles, air lockers and 4.10 gearing.
Just my 2 cents.

In that time range you are only going to find a Rubicon from 2003-2004, but i'd go for it anyway. You mentioned logging trails, which usually mean deep ruts and slick mud. That's not something you want to run into without lockers. Plus the deeper gears (especially with the manual) will let you up the tire size further without an expensive regear.

jesus you guys really know your Jeeps....Great information though, thanks for the reply! I'm thinking sticking with the Rubicon is the way to go and may add to it later if money comes available.

Again, thanks guys
