OK so 2 months ago I had my rear end rebuilt and my body lift changed from a 3 inch to 1 inch (I also have a 3 inch suspension lift). The fools took off my t-case drop and I finally realized this because when coasting over 30mph I was hearing a very slight clicking sound and car is riding rougher. How bad is it for me to keep driving and should I get an S.Y.E? Also who here has an SYE and what kind would you all recommend?

You could always drop your t/c using washers to see if the noise goes away. At one point I had a friend tell me with my lift I didn't need a t/c drop. I took it off and started getting driveline vibrations so I put it back on and ordered a sye from advanced adaptors with a Tom wood drive shaft.

I have read some people just use washers to drop the t/c because they didn't need the full 2 inches of a t/c drop kit. If you get a sye remember to get adjustable rear upper control arms.

At 3" of suspension lift height, it's better to go with a SYE like you can get from Tom Wood at www.4xshaft.com/ but you'd also need a new rear CV driveshaft which as aghostinside says, would also require adjustable length control arms to set the rear pinion angle properly.

The alternative is to just install another 1" t-case drop which may or may not be enough to get rid of the drivetrain vibrations which cannot be ignored. If a 1" t-case drop doesn't entirely eliminate the vibrations, you could add set of 1" taller motor mounts to add to the effect of the 1" t-case drop which would likely be enough.

And by the way, it is 'yoke', not 'yolk'. Yolk is what is inside an egg. :)

Personally, I'm no fan of the super-short SYE kits like JB Conversions sells if it's for a TJ that is also driven on the street. The reason being is that the super-short SYE kits eliminate the speedometer gear and instead use an electronic speedometer system. What's wrong with that? An electronic speedometer output from the t-case can only be calibrated for different tire sizes & axle ratios with an extra-cost external electronic speedometer calibrator like from Truespeed. Standard SYE kits retain the speedometer gear which means the speedometer can be recalibrated in 5 minutes by just snapping in a new speedometer gear.

Super-short SYEs aren't needed for 99% of those needing SYE kits anyway. They help with super tall lifts but not many of us run those. A standard SYE is a great upgrade for the other 99% of us that aren't running an unusually tall suspension lift. :)

If you're going to SYE it, make sure it's the super-short flavor. No sense getting 90% there and stopping. I don't see the problem with the electronic pickup if you've kept a near-stock "net" gear ratio. Otherwise, reprogram it once and you should be fine. Every little bit of length on the shaft helps on these vehicles.

And you should be able to get a local DS shop (that also stands behind its products) to make you a first-rate shaft with Spicer parts for much less than Tom Woods price.

im running a pro comp sye and custom shaft.
i have a 4" lift and flat belly skid, and have
yet to feel the need for a shorty sye. this
one does the jobber.
