So I have installed bikinis and safari tops countless times on a YJ, but this TJ safari top is getting the better of me.

It has a T shaped plastic retainer for along the top of the windshield. This is different than my bikini which lays more flat and has to fold under itself before going into the channel.

I can’t seem to get the windshield channel to fit right. If I fold the safari top windshield channel, the rear straps are short and it won’t go in the entire way. I know someone here knows the answer.

Windshield retainer channel is Bestop too (as far as I know b/c soft top is Bestop)

Figure it out. Bestop has two styles of bikini retainer channels. The top I have requires a retainer that is screwed (blah) to inside of windshield and has a circular rod that has a slit in it for the plastic stem on the top. This design is similar to the rear retainer that slides in from the side.

Hopefully this will help someone not make the same mistake I made. I wanted a safari that would work with my “regular” retainer.

If you can return it, you might want to consider the Bestop Trektop NX. No frame. If you want to get the open feeling, flip the front section (over the front seats) back. If you want to go Safari style, jut remove the rear windows.

Or, you can remove the rear windows and flip the top back. The top then only covers the rear seats.

The Trektop NX comes with a header bar not unlike the full frame soft top that clips to the windshield top using the same clamps as the full frame top. No modification of the WS frame/top edge is needed. The side bars off the header bar attach to the door surrounds (included with the top) for the Sunrider feature. The center section of the top has straps to fasten it to the center cross bar (loosed speaker pods, insert straps, tighten speaker pods, tighten straps) and then a cross support that inserts into a sleeve at the back edge of the top and two straps that fasten to the inside of the tub.

I love mine and wouldn't go back.

Hi, i have a 2002 2dr hardtop and im trying to install the Bestop 52530-15 Strapless Safari Bikini Top with the Bestop 51238-01 Black Header Windshield Channel.

I can't seem to get the header to fit properly in order for me to attach the top. at least i think that is what's wrong. Should the top snap or slide in with some kind of ease? Should the header be further down? Does the T shaped plastic retainer fit between the rubber and the metal? I've tried everything...

There are 2 style of those tops. One takes the header across the top of the windshield, the other uses a circular/rod slotted channel that screws to the inside face of the windshield. If the front of the top has a “T” shaped plastic piece as in my photo, you need the inside face channel.
