For the first time, I had the shift cable linkage bushing dry-rot. Found out when I went to shift from reverse to drive and it wouldn’t change gears and I could feel the looseness in the shift column. I replaced the bushing with a mopar bushing but it keeps dropping off after a few shifts. Anyone else experienced this an/or have any hell to offer?

Try the Doorman 14055 bushing kit. It did the trick for my JK, use the clear one in the package.

Did you do anything special? I was trying to press it in with my fingers and it popped off and landed somewhere on top of the trans area and I couldn't find it. Gonna go buy another one and try again. I think ill take the bracket off holding the cable so i can access it better..

Call Novak and ask if you can use their JK Transfer Case Cable Shifter Upgrade on your transmission lever. Let us know what they say. The plastic bushings on both are crap and will fail after a few years.

I never heard of them before you mentioned them. I looked on their site and saw the transfer case upgrade. Very cool! I emailed them about the transmission linkage. I'll keep you posted.

Thank you for the update and please keep us advised as to when Novak will offer the much better bushings for our automatic trannys. I know it is only a matter of time before the bushings on my automatic tranny will fail. I have installed the Advance Adapter Transfer case cable upgrade on my transfer case years ago. The stock cable bushing on my tranfer case failed at a most inopportune time!

I ordered the transfer case kit from novak when I was on the phone talking with them about the the terrible stock transmission linkage bushings the other day. I can hardly wait for it to come in.
