I had to do some work on the driver's side interior as I was trying to swing the side mirror in - CRACK. The side mirror drooped and powder came out. I lightly moved it to see what was wrong and it came off in my hand. As I looked inside, the metal inside the mirror was corroded. If I had hit anything or if there was any kind of impact, I would expect the plastic housing to be damaged, but alas - it is all good.

Anyone ever hear of this happening? This is a serious WTF.:beerme:

(note: I even did the mirror drain drill mod, so liquid should not be accumulating in the mirror housing).

Ouch! Never saw that before. Looks like some kind of galvanic corrosion that ate away at that.

I just saw another thread where this happened in the last week or so.

How many instances does it take before it becomes "a Jeep thing"?

Stopped by the deal - price with tax for a replacement - $271. That's for a manual mirror with no heat. OUCH! Found one on Amazon for $45 that got great reviews. I did check out Q*Tech, XT and some other supporting vendors, but for something this simple I didn't mind an alternative.
