Only Smitty Lee would come up with a thread like this. And before RubiconSS turns this into a Saturday Night Live skit and Jumby demands we take a poll first let me solicit your feedback.

I love sitting high in my Jeep. Why? Well besides looking down on people which I do so well, I SEE better. I wear progressive glasses and when I am up high in the saddle, I see through the "sweet spot" of my progressive glasses. When I drive a car (sitting lower), I am seeing through the closer distance segment and things are not as sharp. Old farts.....is this true for you too?

Hurry reply before RubiconSS arrives. :bop:

At 55 I had the Lazik corrective surgery done to get 20/20 vision. Worth every penny of the $6000.00 it cost. Now I just wear readers for reading.

All kidding aside. I went to the doctor last week because I've been having brutal headaches. I mean crippling.
He wants to do all kinds of Brain scans (CT & MRI) I of course quipped, "Doc, you won't find anything" No smile anyway.

I'm not a doctor but I also haven't met many that I was positive were smarter than I happen to be so....
I assessed my day to day and came to the conclusion that I was severely "crooking" my neck at my computer in order to get into my glasses sweet spot so I lowered my monitor about 6" and it has helped dramatically.
I may still go get the tests because I like the attention..... Who knows they may find out I have an unusual brain or something. Maybe I'll win a free Jeep.
So, Yes Smitty You, my friend .... “You are not special. You're not a beautiful and unique snowflake. You're the same decaying organic matter as everything else. We're all part of the same compost heap. We're all singing, all dancing crap of the world.”

Happy Valentines Day :)

Mmmmmm........

I'm 50, eyesight deteriorating rapidly. I go from day to day switching from driving to/from work in either my Scion XB or my Jeep. In the Scion I'm constantly adjusting my glasses from pushing them up to lowering to the tip of my nose but don't do this driving my Wrangler.

Just wondered if that dog belonged to Harry?

I got rid of my progressives for driving. They were driving me nuts. Just went with a pair of the corrective lenses for driving and wear the bi- focals indoors.

Progressives are prohibited in military aviation. So I just keep getting bifocals. When progressives first came out I got a pair without knowing it. I couldn't stand them.

Yeah, about 3 weeks into progressives I called up the Doc and basically said I was killing one of us. He voted for me. Week or so later - I got adjusted.

One of the worst experiences of my Life but my glasses have saved my eyes so many times I will never get rid of them. I'd be one eye or blind if it were not for my Glasses.
Makes me look smart too. Wifey says sexy too.:)

Oh I agree Rubi. This is a common issue whether you wear bifocals, trifocals or progressives. I think Alaska Bob missed the point. When you sit higher you are looking out of a different part of your lens vs. if you were sitting lower as in a conventional car. Ideally, you want to be able to drive looking straight ahead through the lens' "sweet spot" not through the reading area or close medium segment of the lens in the case of progressives. As for progressives themselves, they have really improved over the years but some people see better with certain brands of optics vs. another. And you certainly don't want to rely on some inexperienced kid to cut the lens or an incompetent optometrist to examine your eyes. The week before he or she sold jewelry at K-Mart.

The vast majority of "older" folks today much prefer progressives. They have advanced significantly. I adjusted to them immediately. With others it takes a day or two. The trouble with bifocals is you get no medium distance correction. Its either distance or reading. Yesterday's technology Alaska but whatever works for you. I think too we are getting off topic a hair. Only Rubi and I are allowed to do that. :)

Those glasses eventually killed Harry. They were so heavy he couldn't breath properly and one day he suffocated during the 7th inning stretch. Poor Harry R.I.P.

Bottom line, I think progressive eyeglass wearers would be much happier sitting high as they do in a Jeep. I know I am and it's a big reason why I probably would never buy another car.

When I was a wee little boy in Philadelphia we had our own Harry. It was By Saam, the voice of the Phillies. An institution. I can still hear is voice today. I remember going to Connie Mack Stadium for the first time at the age of 8 with my dad. It was a magical experience.

This has nothing to do with progressives lenses or Jeeps but when RubiconSS is around I throw caution (and garbage) to the wind only to have it hit me in the face.

Ahh ya can't. Don't even try. People look at me like I have two heads. "What is with you and your Jeeps?"

If I care. I ask them , "Have you ever driven one?"
Answer is always No.

So, I let them drive mine. Me in it and again only if I care.

Every time. They get it. Many times buy one.

Smitty, You are ruined for life. Once bitten .....

The view is a Plus.
