If anyone has been following my post about the flashing lights, the dealer still cannot fix the issue. (Link)

The service manager wants another shot, then they will buy it back.

Problem is, I have a lot of mods and would want the dealership to swap the items for me (lift kit, tires/wheels, bumpers, audio, headlights, etc).

Has anyone had to go through this? Will the dealer swap the parts? Also how is a buyback performed - do they just pay off the loan?

Any help/info is appreciated.

IMO you should talk to the general manager and see what they propose as far as the buyback and swapping the mods. Get it in writing. Then pay an attorney to review it.

Hmm...interesting topic. No idea really how these things are going to turn out. In a perfect world the dealer would not only un-install them from your current jeep but re-install them on the new jeep from your inconvenience. However, they are in it to make money and that takes time and $$$.

The process is somewhat long and can be handled in two different ways (buyback or buyout), by a third party and they decide on which of the two methods are used (I just went through this on a 2011 GC Summit). One where they pay off your loan and refund any balance you may have left over (you provide receipts for any mods, be careful on this one), or a buy back on a new one and process the difference. This can and does change because they make the rules.

The Area Manager and the dealer's Service Manager go together on the recommendation to start the process. If you go this route, you will need patience. Chrysler knows the lemon laws in your area better than your attorney, trust me. They are not virgins on this. Keeping a calm demeanor helps a lot. I will say I was treated very fairly (except for the PITA) in my case by Chrysler. I did have the full support of my dealer BTW.

Whos buying it back? Chrysler or the Dealer? The last time I had one bought back (01' Grand Cherokee Laredo), I provided receipts for everything I added to it, and paid a set fee per mile driven (I think $.20) and they cut me a check for the original purchase price plus any mod expense less the mileage fee. I then used that check to pay off my loan and bought a new one.

If it is a Chrysler buyback the dealership will show the buyback on the buyers order as a trade in matching what you owe on the vehicle so the vehicle is paid off and you start fresh. I'm not sure about the mods tho, I would imagine they would let you swap everything and maybe just have to pay to have them reinstalled.

I just finished with mine the beginning of this month.

I got them to wave the mileage few.

Chrysler paid me what I paid for the vehicle and full price for all after market parts. I had about 7g in parts they paid for.

If they are doing a replacement you might be able to get them to swap the parts.

I wish you luck stay calm and get all your receipts and keep everything organized. Also if you have not gotten a lawyer and they have not try and stay away from that. You will be able to get more in the long run.

The third party pays and your vehicle is shipped someplace in Texas to start. My dealer had no idea where it went from there. Sometimes, the dealer will pay and then have the third party reimburse them but not always. The dealer sometimes will not play ball as the third party is sometimes slow in paying them so each dealership may have a different process. Ask your dealer about their view on this and how they handle it.

Why would I pay to have modes reinstalled on a new one that I already paid someone else for to install them on the lemon. No way I'd pay ANYONE to move the mods over to the new vehicle. That point would be specifically made to my lawyer to have as part of the deal that THEY move them over free of cost.

IMO if you have the stock parts still and ability to put the back on I'd return it stock. Bringing a lawyer in will create huge headaches as Chrysler has lots more $$$ than you do to fight you. If they're buying your problem child back for full purchase price plus interest I'd be glad to remove a few mods and get a new Jeep in the process.

Im with you, Id do the same. Stock parts are cheap enough and redily available if needed.

I don't think I will need to lawyer up...everyone at the d'ship has been awesome.

That being said, I don't think I should pay to have my mods swapped. If the dealer won't pay me back for them, or swap them/pay to have them swapped, I may need some law top cover.

Be lucky you don't live in California. I had a brand new vehicle with electrical problems that was in the shop for two months total. They flat out told me we don't know what's wrong. They refused to buy the vehicle back with only 2,500 miles. I had to hire two attorneys and sue the manufacturer. Long, long story short, it took just over 1 year and lots of missed work to get the car bought back. During that time, I still had to make the payments and I could not drive the car. It was the most stressfull year of my life. I finally got the money I put into it and they took back the car with no extra compensation. Lemon Law here favors the manufacturer. Thats what happens when you live in a blue state, the manufacturer is the victim, not the owner.
