ok, looking FAR into the future and no doubt, getting ahead of myself....a SOA conversion....is that the best way to get quality flex along with some lift? from what ive been readin, its good for a 33-35" tire, requires new driveshafts, and some welding. anyone have any experience with this. again.....this is just FUTURE plans, once i get some other stuff ship shape......

I had thought about doing one with a CJ I use to own but never did. The SOA will provide more flex than just say a standard 4" lift kit. A few years back one of the Jeep mags did a comparison between the two. Flex, ride, etc. What they determined was that the SOA will out flex the SUA system, but it requires a lot more planning and testing to get it correct. Steering seems to be one of the bigger issues with the SOA,and I think rear wheel hop. As I recall the bottom line was if you have fab skills you may want to try the SOA, if you don't, go with the SUA and you will be fine.

ok, cool. thats good info, thanks. i'll see once i get a little farther along......i've still got lots to do just to get this up to par.....priority over improvements for sure. but......i dont have any real prob hacking or welding on it. i just....need to figure out what my end goal will be. i think before i regear these axles i'd prob be looking for a swap...in which case i prob oughta think about more power...in which case......(the list goes on LOL)

You may also want to look into the revolver shackles and z-box's. Some people love them some don't. But it would give you added flex with perhaps a bit less work than the SOA.

It all comes back to what kind of wheeling you plan to do. Thousands of people wheel very difficul trails with SUA suspension. If you have lockers you can get away without a ton of flex. There are lots of bolt on SUA lifts that will give you a lot less headaches and work just fine. I have been kicking around the SOA myself for a long time, but I think I will ultimately get a good quality SUA lift. I don't consider my Rough Country lift a quality lift. I'm really thinking about the Rubicon Express 4 1/2" Extreme duty kit. It flexes pretty well and as I said earlier...BOLT ON.

cool, those are both good ideas. thank y'all. I think im just gonna play it by ear for now. as i said, this is an ongoing project, im just trying to figure out where exactly im going with it. weighing my future options out....
my main thing is, im not sure if i really want 5 inches of lift (give or take). from everything i've read, 33's are stretching it on these axles, i dont wanna be constantly breaking stuff.....

Best advice on what ever mods you end up doing, figure out what you really want (which it sounds like your doing already), and save towards doing that mod, vs. smaller mods that get you close but you will have to rip out or redo, thus spending even more money and time. Also ask lots of questions to those who have done what your thinking about.. and of course have fun..

thanks man. thats what im trying to do. i know what u mean, b/c if u do small mods, then have to undo them, it ends up costing more (been there, done that). this time around, im trying to have the end goal clear before i ever even start. i appreciate all y'alls help and for dealing with my "green-ness" on all this stuff. its gonna be sweet when i get it all fixed up, and I'll give ya'll the credit!!
