Its hard for me to remember stories unless I'm around other military people shooting the schit... but here's a tip a friend of mine taught me who's a ranger/sniper...

"if you're ever lost in the woods or where ever, just start whacking it... somebody will eventually walk up on you" LOL

The best story by far that I have from my time in service is this:

I was home here in PA on leave after spending months in the desert for Operation Desert Shield then Desert Storm. My leave was up and I was flying from Philly Int'l Airport back to California to return to my unit. On my flight was another Marine from the Philly area heading back to his unit. We had a layover of about an hour in Chicago's O'Hare airport before continuing our flight to San Diego. Now this was back in a time when servicemen flew in uniform. We were in our Charlie's. (former Marines know what uniform this is)

We had an hour layover in Chicago so we decided to head into a bar to have a beer before our flight boarded. We're in there having a beer when an older gentleman in a very fancy suit walked in. He sat down and ordered a drink. He finished his drink and walked right over to where we were standing. He dropped a $100.00 bill on the bar in front of us and said "drinks are on me thanks for your service" and walked out.

I was very impressed and very thankful...and of course we drank his $100.00 bill all gone!

Spit on and cursed.

It's what I remember from the public.
I was just barely born when this went on but am ashamed to know it happened.

To our our service members, THANK YOU! there are some of us that appreciate being able to sleep soundly in our beds because you guard the door.

I am a Commissioned Officer in the NOAA Corps, a small faction within the Dept. of Commerce. We are not military, as in the Armed Services, but a Uniformed Service nonetheless. I am, as we all are, indebted to our Armed Service Members for each night we sleep well in our warm beds. I am extremely grateful, and thank God every night, for the sacrifices these men and women and their families make every day. It keeps my mind at peace knowing these heroes are keeping my family safe while I am away. God Bless America, and Lord bring them home safe. Huzzah!!!!
