So this is the second posting i have done on here.... i am new to this and new to jeeps all around... I am pretty well mechanically inclined... done engine swaps before... but never cross modeling... always factory engine work.....

I picked up a 1969 Kaiser Jeep CJ5 with a 225. It has the factory 3spd but i have a Warn Over Drive. But still doesnt go much more than 50 and thats whinding it to the max!!

Is that normal.... I have always heard about people putting 350s in their jeeps, but what does it entail.... is there a forum someone could point me too?

Is it similar to a toyota where it will bolt right up, or does it take welding, plasma, and tools i do not own haha...

Anyways if anyone can give me advice, or even point me in the right direction would be helpful.... I have found tons of info on Cjs that are 70's and up, but the chasis is different from 60s.... having a hard time locating information

USMC,

If you check out my thread in my signature, I have put a chevy V6 in my 1992 YJ. It isn't the same model, but it will give you an idea of what you are up against and what you have to adapt. I think it will help. Please take plenty of photos of your rebuild. We would love to see them.

Take care,

The 225 V6 is almost perfectly matched to the early CJ5. High power to weight ratio, great engine. If you can't go over 50 with the OD, something is wrong. The 225 I had in my 71 would let me cruise all day long at 70+ mph and only about half throttle...

Do you know what ratio gears are in your axles? What size tires are you running?
Do you have a tach? It may be that your engine isn't winding as high as you think.

I suggest you visit www.earlycj5.com .
The members there are experienced with CJ5s from 1955 to 1975, especially focused on the Dauntless 225 V6 and the Hurricane I4 engines. It's a family-friendly forum, all the guys are helpful and courteous.

See you there!!

+2...My '67 with the buick was great...I suspect you have really low gears in the diffs. or the OD is not working properly...check your gear ratio...
