As the title says. My Speedo intermittently just drops to 0 while driving down the road. It just started doing this the other day. Now Everytime I drive it does it. Sometimes it will stay at 0 for a while, other times it will bounce right back to normal. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I do tell you that I have the terraflex extreme short shaft she kit that uses an electronic speed sensor instead of the Speedo gear. I'm not sure if that could be related or not, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Try giving the nut on the output shaft a good torque. Or check the wiring

Sorry for the ignorance, but what output shaft are you talking about

The shaft coming out of your tcase. There is a nut holding the yoke on the rear of the tcase. The electronic speed sensor uses a tone ring and hall sensor. If the nut is not tight enough it can give erratic readings. It needs to be torqed to 200 ft/lbs

There is a service bulletin on this exact problem and I also had it with my 99 TJ. It is the plug socket on the back of the instrument cluster and it needs to be re-soldered. I assume your Tach is doing the same thing ??? I don't know if that has changed with your setup or not.

So weird. Mine started doing this today too. Tach seems fine so far. Speedo will drop, flutter around, then come back to normal for a bit. Also, when I start out it will stay at 0 or come up weird. Sounds like it is a known issue. I also have a super short SYE with electronic sending unit.

Who has more info on troubleshooting?

Well it seems to have worked. I don't have a 200 lb torque wrench so I just hit it good with the impact. Not tightened up more than expected and speedo seems to be working again. Never would have thought to tighten the yoke so thanks.
