Please bear with me - still a little new to this fancy JK world.

My TJ is heavily modded (as you can see in my profile pic.) I just grabbed a bone stock JKU Sport. First things first, I'm putting a lift on it and tires that won't spin on wet pavement. I want her to be a bit more trail worthy, and I tend to go out alone a lot (I know, I know...) so I want a winch.

On my TJ, I have the stock bumper with a fabricated winch plate and Warn Powerplant HD. I've looked at aftermarket bumpers, but I can't find the one that makes me go "damn, I gotta have that." So for now, I'm sticking with my stock bumper - may make it a bit more stubby, but it's what I'm running for now.

Looking at JK bumpers, I've only found two that I *REALLY* like, but with my current budget I'm going to have to compromise somewhere in my build - JK bumpers seem to be a lot more expensive than comparable TJ bumpers.

In another thread, I saw someone mention making a stubby stock and mounting a winch plate, but I saw no pics. I'd like to see what this looks like to see if it's acceptable for me for now - has anyone mounted a winch on a stock bumper that's maybe modified? And can you share your creation with me?

If you want to chop the front stock bumper, but want a bit more of a refined look then pick up the $65 endcaps from Quadratec. It took me all of about 15 minutes to mount these, including sawing off the ends. I can't advise about how well a stock bumper will hold up with a winch, but I never did like the look of the long stock bumpers.

Hmmmm.....

Looks better - I don't like the full width. My TJ front bumper is black metal. The JK bumper has an awful lot of plastic. OK, so the look isn't bad, if anyone has put a winch on it, I'd love to see a picture.

Thanks DMB!

I like. Can you get into specifics on how this was done? I think I wouldn't mind doing that before I spend ~700 on a new bumper.
