Hey guys,
I really want to cut my OEM bumper into a stubby, but I (rather my dad who still has legal authority over me) have a few questions about some potential problems in doing so,

1) By cutting some of the reinforcement off, am I really decreasing the integrity of the bumper, or will it be just as strong either way.

2) Do I void my insurance by modifying the part (i.e. if I get in a front end crash and the bumper doesn't hold up and causes damage to mine and someone else's vehicle, am I still covered since I modified the bumper?)

Let me know what ya'll think, and thanks in advance for your help.

in reality, the "reinforcement" is just a piece of plastic that can be bent by hand. There is no real structure within the first 2-3 feet of that plastic.

by book, yes this could effect your insurance coverage on your vehicle. it probably varies from insurance to insurance, but probably is subjective by the adjuster who looks at your rig after an accident.

Whether or not your liability in an accident may be increased by stubbing your bumper is your main question. And we aren't going to be able to answer that in any way that a responsible man, as your dad obviously is, would or should accept as the final word!

Asking for an opinion from your insurance agent, and the manufacturer of the caps you want to use, in writing, is the only way to get a true answer!

I'm not that responsible.....

I went with VDP because they are plastic.

That is what I am planning on doing. I'm on a budget, and I think it looks great without the caps

Your Dad will never forgive you if you convince him to do it and then you get in an accident and the doodie hits the fan. Check with your insurance carrier. It does look sick though and on my list of things to do. One thing that makes me feel better about this mod is that TJ stock bumpers aren't as full width as the JK's are and they came stock that way...
