Looking at the Instagram pic I'm amazed they didn't take more off the Jeep. You would think those 10A bumpers would fetch a pretty penny. Also shocked the top and doors are still on it.

I dropped my jeep off at the dealership for service and it was stolen from there lot!!!
Real sorry to read this.

Wondering, did you check your Jeep in, and hand the keys directly to the service advisor/manager?

Several times, I have seen someone (because they were in such a hurry??), just leave their vehicle with the keys in the ignition, and simply walk away. Or hand their keys to anyone who's just hanging around there in the morning.

Everything you sign at the dealer states they are not responsible for theft, fire, act of God. That is why we have insurance. It sucks, but it is what it is. I'm curious if this was a night drop off or you had an appointment and dropped it off with the service folks.

Did the dealership still have your key? If they left it in the Jeep, I'd have a major issue.

Kind of odd that they'd steal it in the first place (no offense). Weren't you running stock wheels? At least in October you were. Looks like they only took the wheels and tires. Not sure why they'd pick yours out of the lot of other JK's to steal unless like others said, they keys were in it.

Condolences

Sums it up. Guess the legal position is the Dealership is the equivalent of a public parking lot, could have happened anywhere, including your closed garage... just the "degree of outrage." It's a liability shift to you and your insurance company. Hopefully your rates don't go up.

Just because the dealer has a sign or makes you sign something does not mean they are not responsible.

About 15 years ago I took a new truck to the dealer for something and the truck was broken into and my stereo was stolen while it was on the lot. I sued the dealer and they paid me around $2000 after the court found in my favor.

That sucks, sorry that happened to you.

As for the dealership, if that really is their position, why would anyone leave a $30K-$40K with a bunch of morons who can't keep a vehicle reasonably safe.

They are saying hey we aren't responsible for anything but we will also over charge you for our low quality work as a bonus.

Believe or not this happens all the time. And the busier the dealership the easier for it to happen. Dealerships have new cars stolen all the time and it takes weeks for them to realize it. They only do new/used car inventory once a month and they usually never do inventory on cars being serviced. So when they are stolen it takes awhile to realize it.

Yep, and rock haulers/gravel trucks have signs on back saying "keep back xxx feet, not responsible for windshield damage."
BS!!! Those signs are just to make you think that and not pursue it. They most definitely CAN be held responsible.

As soon as they have it on their lot, it is in their care, custody and control. I promise that even a mediocre attorney will walk right through that disclaimer, because there is a ton of case evidence that shows that the disclaimer is more a scare tactic.

I didn't read the links. Did the dealership not have multiple security cameras? I can't even imagine a dealership these days not having cameras on every inch of their property. If they don't, they're a pretty stupid dealership.

lol they stole the wheels and the hood? if they were smart they would have gotten a pickup and stole:

- hard top
- freedom panels
- all 4 doors
- swing gate
- 2 front seats
- front grille

and that's not even a comprehensive list of what could be removed in under 30 mins with a crew of a few guys with a bag of tools and a pickup truck.

all of that stuff comes off so easily.

Bud , you are an innocent victim of the dealership

Buddy , you are an innocent victim of the dealership . Of course they are liable in full . You left the Jeep with them in good faith , and they have No Comprehension that you are Not Dumb . Because you are Not Dumb You Know that They Had your Jeep , and that's that . I usually don't recommend the vile lawyers because they are sneaky and will want some of your money , but in this case I highly recommend that you talk to a personal injury lawyer about your property loss . The dealership has plenty of insurance to pay for your loss ; the only reason they avoid that is because they don't want their insurance premiums to go up . ( I also recommend that you find an experienced independent Jeep mechanic as soon as possible , and avoid that dealership forever in the future .) ( By the way , Greece is my favourite European place , because of the people , food , and general coolness of it all .) :bop:

Exactly! The most modular vehicle produced today with parts that designed to be removed in minutes and these morons only got the hood and wheels lol.
