I've got a question about street legal... So i read the MT law on mud flaps and flares and aprons.. It doesn't specify if you have to have one or more of these requirements... The reason I ask is because I took the flares off my 94 BUT I do however have wide mud flaps bolted to my bumper. Who would I call to see if this is street legal or does anyone know what the laws are regarding this??

We have a law concerning mud flaps, flares, and aprons? Those may be on the books but in my experience, they are very rarely enforced unless you are:

1) totally obnoxious, or
2) you actually put a rock through someones windshield

Number two most definitely exposes you to some liability issues but suspect most insurance would probably still have you covered, at least for the initial event.

I have a lot more tire exposed than is legal on my 3B and cut down some of the spring shaft mounted semi flaps that slip into sockets on the rear bumper. I ran it with those and just took them off for trails, but eventually just left them home and that was about 7 years back. No problems to date.

I called the Hwy Patrol shortly after posting and actually spoke with an officer regarding this and he looked it up and said from his understanding it's either mud flaps OR flares OR aprons. The other day I was driving downtown and had a BPD follow me for a good distance and nothing... So I guess I'm good?? LoL
