Well I have just purchased m first jeep! 91 yj 2.5l 5 speed

The other day there was a big rain storm..soo i went to test out my 4wd.

I had no problems shifting from 2hi,4hi, and 4lo at first. but after getting stuck in 2hi, engaged 4hi(complete stop, clutch pedal fully depressed) well i got out of the mud, but now I cant shift to 2hi??? The shifter on the T-case will still engage 4hi/4lo/N but it will not lock in 2hi position.(putting the transmission in gear will send the shifter back to 4hi) I think it may be a linkage problem but this is my first jeep/4x4 so im kinda lost :banghead:

help?

Its pretty easy to adjust.

Inside the jeep remove the shifter boot.
Put the transfer case in 4L.
Put a 1/8 in. spacer between forward edge of the shift lever and the shift lever gate.
Outside....Jack up the jeep and loosen the lock bolt (2) on the adjusting trunnion (3) then move the range lever fully rearward to the 4L position (5)
Set the linkage rod (4) so that it sets freely in the in the range lever (5) and tighten the adjusting trunnion bolt.
Lower the jeep and remove spacer from the shift lever and try it out.

Make sure you support the Jeep before you climb under it.
