Hi guys,

Now that I have my axles rebuilt (locker up front, LSD in the back) I have been wheeling at Rausch Creek quite a bit. I am realizing that the TJ will go over just about anything that I put in front of it and I am starting to move from green/blue trails to more challenging trails. My concern is that the challenging trails entail a lot of rocks and I am concerned that I am going to bust something open on the rocks... so, my questions are:

1. what skid plates are necessary? I'm assuming an engine/oil pan skid, gas tank skid, and steering box skid. but is that it?

2. what breakage is common for the D30? For example, does the diff. cover need to be replaced, do the "C" sections on the end of the axles ever bend if they smack a rock? will the axle tube take any abuse? I've heard of guys welding brackets to strengthen the lower control arm mounts. Is that needed?

Basically I just want to know what is needed to protect my Jeep as I get into tough trails. I am really happy with the way the TJ performs now so the last step is to protect it.

THAT is a nice set up! thanks for the input. I want to look further into the skids you listed.
