The temp guage in my Jeep has never worked. I know...why didn't i fix this five years ago. :( I did change the sending unit in the manifold, didn't help. Does anyone know if that is the correct sender to change or is it the other one, which I haven't located yet. I just replaced the water pump, thermostat, and hoses and would like to fix the guage now so I don't toast anything. It could be a wire, a ground, bad connection, bad guage cluster. I was looking for an easy solution if any. Maybe someone has had the same problem. Any thoughts?

Remove the sending unit wire from the sending unit. With the key in the on position, ground the wire to the block or battery ground. If the gauge deflects all the way past hot, your gauge, and the wire all the way from the gauge to the sender are good. If the gauge doesn't move or just barely moves, the gauge most likely needs to be replaced.

Another thing to look for is that the ground on the ribbon cable for the cluster is notorious for corrosion. Pull the cluster and check to see if everything looks good.

Sorry, I have been a little busy. I need to find a job so I can get a break. The terminals were corroded where the wiring harness plugged in to the gauge cluster, and also under the black clip on the back of the temp. gauge. It all works now.

Good luck with the job hunt. I just did it, so I know how it is. I spent many hours on the career websites and such. I had offers pouring in after a little while. I hardly had to beat the streets at all. I guess that's how it is these days.

I am really close to getting the job I want. I spent four hours for psychiatric testing today. For them to spend that kind of money for testing I have to be close. It is a product development position, which is exactly what I want to do. I am not even goin to look for anything else until this one pans out.

the sensor you are looking for is a 1 wire sensor on the back driver side of the itake, right beside the valve cover. That is the one that controlls the gauge. the sensor with 2 wires is the one the computer uses to adjust air/fuel ratio, don't mess with it. The wire for the temp gauge is purple on the cluster conector

I started the new job today. It is great. I will be working with all aspects of production from design to final product. It will be something new every day so it won't get boring. The hours, pay and benefits are great. More money and more vacation time to spend with the Jeep... oh yea and the wife and kids. Thanks for the prayer AmeriJeep. :D

Lee, I got her working, but thanks for the reply. I was wondering what the other sender was for.
