There are arguably more aftermarket wheels available today than ever before - but how do you know which ones fit?

Your vehicle requires a wheel with a specific bolt pattern in order for it to safely fit. This is determined by the number of bolt holes the wheel has and how they are spaced apart.

Dual bolt, single bolt, and bolt circle are a just a few terms used in identifying if a wheel fits safely. What does all of this mean though? How is it measured?

Find the answers to these questions and more in our bolt pattern overview linked below.

If somebody needs this article to tell a 4 lug from an 8 lug they are considered dangerous and should not be on the road.

I think for the most part the novice wheel purchaser understands that if their vehicle has a 5 lug wheel, that they need a 5 lug replacement wheel. Where it can get confusing is the bolt circle, specifically metric to standard like the JK/JL for example 5-127 also equals 5-5.

Some passenger cars are confusing too, such as the LX platform that calls for 5-115. Many consumers assume 5-114.3 (also 5-4.5) fits and while you can physically mount the wheel to the hub, it's not the right application.

Not a bad article, unfortunately you have to dig for it as the url provided asks for your location and messes up the redirect to https://www.discounttiredirect.com/learn/bolt-pattern

Thank you for the heads up on this! We'll keep that in mind for future posts :thumb:

All of that is very interesting info but I’ve seen ‘professionals’ at Discount Tire and many other shops mounting new wheels/tires on trucks/Jeeps that are sticking out of the fenderwells by 6 inches. New wheel bearings, anyone?
