Well Im researching a Eaton E locker for the front of my TJ.
My question is how can I tell if I have a 3.53 or a 3.73 gear?
Also it would be a 27 spline,correct?
And who has the best pricing.Sorry for my ignorance on this subject.Just trying to learn.

Jeep only used 3.55 in the '97 Wrangler TJ so unless yours is a '97 TJ, yours has either 3.07 or 3.73 if it has the 4.0L engine. And yes your front Dana 30 is a 27 spline axle.

As said above, just look on the axle tag to see what gears are inside your axle. The tag in the below pic is indicating the axle has 3.73 gearing inside.

I am considering the E locker up front as well, having had one put in the rear and so far so good. Happy with the operation. I will at least upgrade the 27 fronts to superiors, but not sure if I need to go to 30 spline like I did in the rear. I dont see where the locker is available much under the $700 range...

Providing the Superior Axle shafts you upgrade to are from their Evolution Series which are hardened alloy, you will be good with 27 spline shafts. Their Discovery shafts are carbon steel and barely stronger than OE.

I ran Warn's hardened alloy 27 spline axle shafts up front with a locker and 35" tires and they held up extremely well to some of the most difficult trails around. That was after I busted the OE axle shaft up front. Warn's shafts (discontinued when they sold their axleshaft/manual hub business to Randy's) are about the same strength as Superior Axle's Evolution shafts.

Yeah, Thanks for the input, I was thinking the upgraded 27 would work for my needs. I didnt realize they made 2 difference grades and almost bought the discovery series when I made the rear axle purchase. I figured since I was sticking w the 35 that I would at least by pay a little more and get the best axle w lifetime warranty. I am hoping that the labor will be lower on the front since not replacing R&P, but probably not much.
