Was wondering if anyone mounted these without the rings. My installer has said that in other Jeeps, he's drilled directly into the plastic surround in the sound bar, and didn't need any adapters. I'm thinking I can handle these myself, but want to be sure I don't NEED adapters before I tackle this.

You need the adapters. It's possible that there might be just enough overlap in the plastic surround to drill into it directly, but there won't be much room for error. Even with the adapters you need to drill an extra hole in one of the lugs to make it match up properly.

In a pinch, if you don't have the adapters and really want to do the speaker upgrade now you could relatively easily make some from quarter inch ply. I'm sure you'll be able to find them at Best Buy or somewhere though.

Used the adapters from Crutchfield...everything fit perfectly..no drilling at all.
