Does the air temperature sensor on the manifold need any type of thread sealant?

I took mine out to check it and it has some type of white residue on the threads. Wondering if I need sealant to place it back in?

If so what kind? Permatex High temp sealant or Permatex liquid teflon with PTFE sealant?

Yes the liquid Teflon will work.

I am not sure if the sensor needs a ground but if it does sealant can cause a problem i wouldent put any on it. It;s a pipe thread just snug it up it will be good.

If by liquid teflon you mean the stuff with the brush applicator, that's too thick.
I use the Permatex thread sealant in the tube. Can't remember the darn number.

I put it back in and snugged it up as it was after 9pm and stores were closed. Seemed okay I didnt clean any of the rest of the sealant off. But for future knowledge wanted to know for sure what to do. I suppose the worst it'll do is leak exhaust?

Much thanks Sonny. I wasnt aware of the Loctite 567. Greatly appreciate that too. At least I know of another brand in case I cant find one on the shelves. :)

I use the 567 extensively, including that application. I keep several tubes in strategic locations, great product.

Sonny, I still have a tube that says *New* like yours, I think I bought that particular tube around 1995, so I am thinking yours has been around for a while too, unless you found an “NOS” tube somewhere!

Lol actually this one is less than a year old. They must have gotten a 25 year supply of those tubes... :).

Thanks agalloch07. I popped it back in & it seemed to be okay.

Can ya do the same with the coolant temp sensor too?
I noticed that one has the red high temp sealant on it.

Not knowing what year nor what motor you have, I can only tell you about 4.2 temp gauge sensors.
They work by varying the ground, so sealants like Teflon tape cause the sending unit to not ground properly. When I replaced mine didn't use any sealant. I would have used a sealant, but all I had on hand was Teflon tape. I kept an eye on it for a while, expecting a leak, but after 4 years, no leak.
If you're uncomfortable not using sealant, be sure to use one that won't insulate the threads.
Some YJ motors also have a temp sensor for the fuel injection. I would guess that they work the same way.

Much thanks for the explanation L.M. Greatly appreciate it. Sorry for the lack of info in my profile. I picked up a couple projects that I felt were decent deals at different times. I think I asked for too much though. loL! So Im rotating between them (94 and 95 YJ's). This one is the 94 2.5L 4 cyl. 5 spd.
I wasnt too worried about using or not using the sealant but just wanted to be sure I could without having any more problems added to the mix. Just wanted to do the right thing on it. I figure asking would be best since my research was coming up empty and I wasnt sure what the white residue was on the threads after I pulled it out to run a test. I did pop the air temp sensor back in and still running more diagnostics on it to get it running again. Also doing more research for it. In the mean time Ive been working on the 95 yj as well. Some rust clean up going on before the winter makes it entry. Too much to do & not enough time. Ugh! Cant keep up. lol.

By chance would you know the part number for the rubber bushings on the torque arm for a 95 YJ? Ive been searching around for a couple days now but only can find the polyurethane ones. I searched a couple mopar websites but havent been able to find the parts yet. T.I.A. And always great talking to ya.

Find a post by Got it at last. In his signature there's a free link to several Factory Service manuals and a couple Factory Parts Manuals.
Open that link and click on the manual that you need.

The parts manuals were first published in the year that the the cover states the manual is for. Some part numbers update and some parts are still used in newer Jeeps. Call your local Jeep dealer with the part number for the part that you need. The counterperson can tell you what the current part number is and if it's still available.
