So my '16 JKUR developed a tick. At 33,000 miles it just suddenly appeared and is LOUD. I'm covered under the powertrain warranty, but man is this disappointing. The mechanic mentioned lifters possibly and that the camshaft is probably damaged. Won't know until they get it apart.
And I was just telling someone how happy I was that mine was trouble free. I love my Jeep, but not sure how happy I'd be if I had to pay for this repair. Mechanic said it would run into the thousands.
Until this point my biggest disappointments with this Jeep are the rear window zippers on the softtop and stone chips on the door hinges. Zippers still vex me, but the hinges got replaced and I wrapped 3m clear tape around them to prevent stone chips. Worked great and should be done at the factory.
what's next? :tomatoes:

UPDATE: The dealer performed the repair and found the right intake manifold camshaft failed. They replaced the camshaft and related rockers and tappets. It runs great now and quiet. It was covered under the powertrain warranty.
I was contacted by Jeepcares and they looked into my case. They extended my powertrain warranty for another 5 years with a $100 deductible at no charge. It was offered without me having to argue for it. I'm pretty happy with Jeep right now. They did what I and many others think is the right thing to do for their customers.
David from Jeepcares was great. He listened and took interest in my concerns. Thanks to Wrangler forum and Jeepcares I'm back on the road.

Reviving an old thread here.....
seems my JKU @60k is making the ‘tick’ noise, though, intermittent. I’ve got two video to show the contrast. Will have to upload them to YouTube, as we cannot post video clips to the forum.

Question is it fact true that Jeep extended warranty for 2012 and 2013’s for 10 years or 150k?

Thanks to anyone that can provide insight.

My '18 JK has had a tick since new, and it has never gotten worse. 73,000 miles on it now. BUT, I have the Mopar Lifetime Added Care Plus warranty which has already paid for itself in just two dealer visits.

The extended warranty is for the defected left cylinder head on the 2012, and some early built 2013's. It does not cover cam roller bearing failures, which yours possibly has. Take it into your Dealer, and have it diagnosed.

So if my '14 would have had a problem last year I could have an extended warranty. But at 5+ years and 54K I am on my own now? No ticks and all is well today. But I got the oil cooler and the lifter thing out there on the '14's.

My 2015 needed a new driver's side cylinder head. Cost me $3300. The dealer said no warranty coverage. Then they botched the repair. Twice.

I really have zero faith in any of the Jeep dealers within 30 miles of me. I’ll try and find a trusted dealer to have them diagnose it. But again, it’s intermittent.

Im thinking ‘drive it till it dies’ as I do with my 2001 TJ with almost 200k miles. It’s one of those things where I’d probably be better off replacing the engine with a Jasper when and IF the time comes.

If it indeed happens to be what you suggest, I do have a fantastic mechanic I trust that can get me through it. I simply have a hard time believing a dealership tech will be either honest or know the issue, if one exists.
