Hey everyone,
I just got my first 1993 jeep wrangler, its a 2.5 4 cyl.
its in overall good condition, but im hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine bay.
Do any of you have any idea what that might be?
I was told to use a stethescope ( sp? ) to pinpoint the location of the noise. I put the stethescope on the valve cover, and i heard alot of noises. Im not too sure if it is the exact noise, because the valvetrain has alot of parts moving around.

This may be a dumb question, but since its a 4cly. Can it do any sort of offroading?

i think it does actually go away slightly when the engine warms up.
it takes a while to go away, but i think it does. And, if it doesnt go away, its very..very very slight.
how do i check to see if it coming from the manifold?
and would putting headers on this car do anything? i have a 79 trans am as my fast muscle car, i do not need this jeep to be fast by any means haha, but any nice jump in power is appreciated.

AND, sorry i forgot to post this, but. 94redwrangler. What do you mean, donut. you said two places you had the tick. donut and manifold. do you mean the donut tire?

if it is an exhaust leak. Should it go away really fast when it warms up, or will it just quiet.
When i first start it, its pretty loud, you can tell its there. But after a while, its like reallllly quiet. And im not sure, but i think its gone. But, it still might be there.

well guys.
The noise doesnt go away. at all.
Not even to the slightest imagination.
I started the jeep up, it was there, and fairly loud.
Then, i drove it around, got her nice and hot. And the noise got a little quieter, but was still there never the less.

So, you guys think its the lifters?

well, i think its a knock now.
I took it into my shop class today, and we were looking at it, and it seems to be knocking, not ticking.
but, i can not find where it is coming from. i used a stethescope, and searched everywhere on the block.

my oil pressure goes up to around 50. when im driving on the express way, and when i get off the expressway, it goes back down to 40. or wherever the middle is.

does that oil pressure increase, mean anything?

well, its at the shop right now, getting its final check.
We believe that the motor is taking a crap on me, and im looking into a new one.
I found a brand new from the factory motor, direct replacement for my jeep. for 1,500.
i think im going to go ahead and take it.

hey,
Well, actually, the engine comes with everything, EVERYTHING, but the alternator,ac pulley,powersteering and tensioner pulley ( sorry, spelling sucks )
So its a great deal.
I can just transfer all those accesory pulleys over, right?
