well, i think its a knock now.
I took it into my shop class today, and we were looking at it, and it seems to be knocking, not ticking.
but, i can not find where it is coming from. i used a stethescope, and searched everywhere on the block.

pull the oil pan and check the conecting rods, is there any fluctioation in oil pressure during all rpm ranges?

it is normal for oil pressure to rise during acceleration because the more RPMs you have the faster the Oil pump pumps creating more pressure, when you rev up the motor and the pressure gage stutters or even drops you have a bad oil pump, and the end is near unless you take action.

that sounds fair thats problibly just the long block, your going to have to change over all the external stuff like exaaust manifold, intake manifold, alt, Ext... when you do the motor swap its an exelent opertuinty to install a header!!!

hey,
Well, actually, the engine comes with everything, EVERYTHING, but the alternator,ac pulley, powersteering and tensioner pulley ( sorry, spelling sucks )
So its a great deal.
I can just transfer all those accesory pulleys over, right?

Would a ticking that gets louder and faster as you accelerate be the lifters? I checked in one of the manuals (from pep boys) and it said a ticking could be many things including a pinhole on/in about three things (including the piston) or it could be the piston hitting, and about 6 other things. Also, what do you make of the oil pressure spiking up (to off the guage) when idling and driving. It's only at normal pressure about half the time. I need a new Ideler motor (likes to rev and fall between 500-1000 RPM in neutral) and it will spike and fall alot as it does this.

Bad Oil Leak with a Tick

I've had some what of an oil leak with this jeep since I got it 10 yrs ago. Just recently the oil leak looked like it was coming from a seal on the oil pan. Now I hear a tick and the oil is dripping a lot more. I think it might be coming from up high because it's dripping on the exhaust pipe and burning off. There is oil everywhere underneath. Any thoughts on this guys? Thanks
