My rear brakes (OEM 5 yr's 46K) are starting to squeal and I know the pads are pretty worn as of December last I checked so it's time. I'd love to do something like TF's big rotor kit and the front kit or BBK as well, but this has been the year of big $$$ (for me) maintenance with a bunch going to hardtop seals last December and now about 1200 about to go out for drag link, ball joints, and an alignment. Yeah I could save about half that by doing it myself but I'm taking the opportunity to have gussets and LCA skids welded on which I don't have the ability to do myself.

Anyway, so because of that I'm looking at trying to do something for relatively cheap but that will have hopefully improved over OEM performance to keep up with my new 34" Ridge Grapplers (285/75's). I'm thinking of doing the Centric rotors and Hawk LTS pads off tirerack for about $165. The other option was the Powerstop Rear Z16 kit which is even cheaper at $114, but I don't know anything about the pads included or the Autospecialty rotors in that kit and I've been told Centric is pretty good stuff..........same rotors in the Black Magic kits apparently which I was also considering even though the rears don't use BM pads.

My plan also is to only do the rears for the moment and do the fronts when they're ready. Hopefully that won't be until next year after the Jeep is paid off in March and I have more free $$$ available and can look at doing one of the BBK's in the front.

What do you guys think about that Centric/Hawk setup? My concern with the PS kit would be it uses ceramic pads which I've been told really don't shine until heated up like high speed braking which a Jeep is not really going to be in that kind of situation vs a sports car. Of course I also want to avoid drilled/slotted rotors because I do wheel and that's just a bad combo with dust/mud getting in there.

I'm currently going through the same scenario with my 2013. I wanted to get something that I thought would be better than the OEM. I was very much interested in the BM products. I emailed them to get an answer to a question. I never received a reply so I moved on. I am going back with OEM parts. While
I feel the JK brakes don't feel great they have worked good up this point.

Since mine is not completely ready for brakes, I am picking up parts along the way so I'll have everything when the actual time comes. Keep us posted on what you decide to do.

If you're not increasing the diameter of the rotors, size of the calipers, or capacity of the system, or better yet increasing all the above, you have little to nothing to gain over stock.

Who makes the best quality at the stock level besides Jeep.

Has anyone tried Wagner OEX brake pads on a JK Wrangler? I've heard a lot of good things about them, one of which is much better stopping than stock brake pads. It might be worth looking into.

I will be watching this too as my rears are at 6mm and I figure I will need to replace them at 3-4mm. Fronts are at 10mm so no problems there.

I just did hawk lts green pads and centric rotors two weeks ago. It's a pretty good difference from stock. It definitely feels like a shorter stopping distance than before.

My 2013 will be ready for rear pads by the end of summer, the fronts look almost new. As that time gets closer will be looking at Qtech for some advice.

I've been running the Hawk LTS with Centrics for the last 2 years and haven't felt the need to get a big brake kit.

I'd be happy just not to have that big groan from the brakes when putting my jeep in reverse. Contemplated changing the pads to aftermarket even though the factory ones only have 10k on them.

Decided to skip OEM after researching and reading info here and on another forum. I ordered front and rear Centric Premium Rotors and EBC front green stuff pads and extra duty EBC pads for the rear from Amazon. Will report out when I install and test.

Well, I had my Jeep on a lift this weekend to replace the rear driveshaft with a factory takeoff from a fellow Jeeper (ripped my slip joint boot out on the evap skid a while back) and noticed the passenger rear axle looks to be weeping fluid. At this point I'm assuming the axle seal is leaking after 5 yrs 46K.

Any potential issues with the brakes from that? I don't want to replace the brakes and then have to do them again cause the leak trashed the pads. I was told check the parking brake to see if it's covered in fluid when I do the brakes to get an idea of how bad the leak is but I assume if that's covered the brakes would be as well?

Wagner OEX pads are HARD, the last 25 feet of stopping sounds like metal to metal and they are brand new, I hope they do not wear out my rotors faster, but, they do stop well.....

How many miles on them? Did you use any disk brake quiet or a similar product on the back of the pads? I heard a few people say give them about 500 miles stop and go, about 1,000 for those fortunate enough not to deal with traffic.

We did have Wagner semi-matalic pads on our '07 JK X. They performed fine except for the terrible squealing with light brake pressure, like when backing out of a parking spot or easing down a trail. Finally had enough of it and put the Wagner OEX pads on. They stop much better and even the wife says they are totally silent. The JK is her daily driver and she loves the OEX pads.
