My 31 inch tires are getting pretty worn and I am looking at getting new tires in the spring. I have a 1999 4 cylinder and have no problem with power with the tires I have. Will there really be that big of difference going from 31's to 33's? I was thinking if there was I may go to a 32 inch tire. I have a 4 inch lift and the tires that are on it look just a little small for it, but I don't want a huge change in mileage and power on the highway as this is my daily driver.

The four-banger doesn't have as much torque available to overcome larger tire diameters like the six cylinder engine does. For that reason, regearing the axles to lower more appropriate ratios for larger tires becomes more important with the 2.5L engine. If you want to run 33" tires, I'd say to do so only if you can also afford the $1100 or so cost for regearing both axles to 4.88. Running 33" tires with your existing 4.10 ratio would be pretty frustrating. 32" won't be much better. :)

but if you went with 33x10.5s you may see no difference at all. I had 31x11.5's on my 2.5L then went to 33x10.5s.. didn't notice any difference, a little better fuel economy too actually. its still a 2.5L and you're gonna lack that extra umph when you want it on the roads unless you do the gear swap like jerry suggested. however, IMO, a regear on a d30 and d35 just isn't worth it at all if you're going to ride your rig on the trails... save up and get yourself d44's or go 609 w/lockers and the gearing you need.
