tire question....

....on a stock YJ. Can I fit 31x10.5's? Maybe with 3.5 or 3.75" of backspacing? I heard you can but have never seen it. I've got 30x9.5's and it seems I could fit a little larger. I'm thinking about going for some TJ flares too, so that will help alot but I'm waiting till I can find some cheap cheap.

Thanks guys..

You might make it fit if you're running city streets and not planning on going through any driveways. Otherwise, I can bury my 31's into the flares running a 2-1/2" RE lift when she flexs a little.

I had 31 x 10.50's on my stock 95 and they rubbed a little on the springs. I never went crawling or anything, but I had no problems with them on logging roads and mud. (mild stuff). I recently went with 30 x 9.50 MT's as replacements. They still rub just a little on the springs. I will adjust my steering stops. My backspacing is a little more than that since I am running xj wheels.
I have 'em on my YJ. Does fine. Rubs a tiny bit.
Thanks guys!

I don't do much serious off roading, no trail riding...mainly just muddy roads and a field or two if I'm going fishing. What backspacing do you have on your rims Amerijeep?

Thanks again!
I have the original aluminum wheels that came on the Sahara. Aluminum is 100% better than any steel wheel. I don't know what the backspacing is. I'll try to look it up and post it.
I put 31X10.5 tires on my 95 and they rubbed the flares. I put a 2 inch body lift on ($100) and it is just right.
I imagine if they are the factory rims the backspacing is around 5 1/2 inches.
I had 31X10.50's on my 87 when it was stock. Had the factory wheels. Rubbed on the flares until they wore to fit the tires. Then no problems.
