I was out this weekend and managed to get two tires split in the sidewalls of my Duratrac 315/70/17's at the same time. They are two weeks old and the trail I was on was not that big of a deal. All in all I am fighting with Goodyear over the warrant but even if they cover it I may replace the tires altogether and sell the Duratracs because I now have zero confidence in them. I have looked around and based on my experience I may purchase the Goodyear MT/R with Kevlar. Do they run close to the size they show on the spec sheets? Are they amazingly loud and how much heavier are they? Any other suggestions would help as well. I have searched but suck at that, so I thought I'd ask anyways.

Unfortunately Duratracs just don't hold up well on some trails. Fantastic for wet, dry, dirty, and snow conditions but avoid rocks/ledges if you can with them. The MTR is a good off road tire, not a good street tire. Check out mickey thompson mtz or cooper stt also.

The MT/R's are a great off road tire with a very strong sidewall. I took a chunk out of my old set and they still ran great. Yes they are a louder tire and not the best in the snow. They are heavier than the duratrac but if you are looking for off road performing tire go with the MT/R. Plus they have a great aggressive looking tread. Be sure to rotate them often and run them at around 28-30 psi.

if you have road hazard warranty, then no biggie. I did get a punctured sidewall with my toyo at2 w/ less than 3k miles on them. didn't purchase road hazard but when i called toyo and told them of my situation, they gave me 50% off of everything. 50% Everything includes mounting/balancing/tax/ and a new tire.

x2 @ESP w/ the MTR's. You have to be careful when hitting up curvy paved roads...those tires will tend to skip.

I felt my Duratrac's before they were mounted, and the sidewall feels pretty thin and flexy. They're very light for their size, I guess thats the main area of tradeoff. I won't be wheeling a lot where its rocky, so I took the risk of running a lighter tire.

If you look at sites that list tire weights, you'll find some similar size tires that are 20lbs heavier per tire.

I popped two duratracs myself- both sidewalls. I have the MTRs w/kevlar now and love them. I had some balancing issues with them, and had goodyear road force balance them and all is well.

I have the 35" Goodyear MT/R's on my TJ. Great off-road, but I have a hell of a time trying to balance them. Even with a road force balance, they will never feel like a street tire. On my new JKU, I may opt for the 35" BFG KM2's. I wouldn't ever consider a Duratrac on any kind of Jeep that I had an intention to wheel. Not that they aren't nice tires, I have seen to many guys that I have wheeled with end up losing a tire due to lack of sidewall strength.

To goodyear's credit, I believe the duratrac's E load range tires were made from either a stronger rubber compound or the side wall was beefed up to 3 ply for 2013. Even if true, this leaves most with 15 or 17 inch wheels and C/D load ratings with the older weaker side wall.

Like a month ago I got druratrac after I spend a long time debating what to go for, And for the most part I didnt encounter people complaining about the sidewall of them. Mann I better go and buy some road hazard warranty like """NOW""

I know when I started looking almost a year ago I saw lots of negatives along with lots of positives. I saw enough negative stuff I did not get them even tho they were cheaper then the Toyo's I bought.

I believe Cooper STT, Mickey MTZ, and one of the Pro-Comp MT's all share a very strong carcass, may be worth looking into. This info is a couple of years old based on my research at the time though, things may have changed.
