Hello all. I have question. I hope you al can help.

Ok i have a 2004 TJ Wrangler with a 4.0 6cyl it has the 6Speed manual with stock dana 30/35. I have a 4.5 RE SF lift and i want to run 33" tires.

Now i dont do any rock crawling and i mostly see sand mud snow I live in New Mexico But am currently stationed in FT drum NY Were there is deep mud and snow.

I was wondering if the dana 35 would hold up to the 33's with 4.56 gears and a aussie locker? Or will i need to up grade to the cromo 30 spline axles with a detroit? And if so will that hold up?

Thank you for any help you all can offer.

Rick.

Welcome to this forum, and I would go ahead and put the 33" tires on the axles you already have. I have friends that run 35" tires on their stock axles, with lockers on both ends. Especially if you are not doing a lot of rock crawling. If your D-35 ever gives out on you, then go ahead and upgrade it. I wouldn't throw it away until then. The aussie lockers will work just fine, and the gears are a good choice.

Depends: there are some folks who can run 35's on a dana 35 and never bust it. Others snap in the parking lot with stock tires. I do have a buddy that has the super 35 kit and except for the locker going south it has held up rather nice with the 30 spline shafts and 33's. Just remember, low gears, lockers and big tires with the stock setup at some point will give you issues with your 35. If you can save up for a used 44.

Helpfull

Thank you. I dont ever plan on going bigger than 33" tires and the places i go are logging trails and forest roads. And play in the mud and snow.

I havent ever went on rocks exept for gravel so no worries there.

What locker was you friend using that went south maybe i could avoid it.

Any other opinions welcome.

Thanks

He was using the standard super 35 kit with the detroit. I guess somthing inside the detroit went south. Was a major issue as getting replacement shafts was no big deal getting the special locker was. Almost had to buy the whole kit again. But found someplace that would sell just the locker.

Currie actually makes a helluva 9" setup that they build for TJ's and it's quite cheaper than one would think.

And yes there are plenty of companies that will build you a D44 axle(or any axle for that matter) ready to bolt in when you get it.
