So my mechanic buddy told me that when I go to 35's, with the proper gearing I should get better mpg that I am now with 31s and 3.07 gears, which is about 15 mpg.

I called BS but was only about 90% sure. Am I wrong?

It ultimately depends on how you drive. You probably get into the throttle pretty hard with your current set-up which leads to poor mileage. The new gears will keep you from putting your foot as far into it, but you'll also be running higher RPM's and be turning a bigger tire/more rotating mass/bigger contact patch/more friction. If you take it easy on the skinny pedal you can gain some MPG's. Good Luck!

Whatever mileage you are getting now with 31s will be reduced with 35s and probably considerably. Going from 35s back to 33s netted me about 2 MPG.
