I finally have my replacement 4.0 ready to drop in. This YJ has been my daughters (17) and my selfs project. She asked me if it would be ok for her to blow the the old motor before we replaced it. It has 288,000 miles on it. I'm thinking I might just let her do it. What ya think???

Why do that, when you can sell it and make some cash. How was she going to blow it?
It has 130ish psi on 5 cylinders. The 6th is at 50ish. They figure its a valve problem. But it has just over 288,000 miles. You can buy a 4.0 from the wrecking yard with all the jewlery for $150; which is what I did and built. So it's not really worth that much. My hold back is possibly killing a good block, that I will never use. She was just thinking neutral and foot to floor.

I was thinking of craigslisting it and letting the buyer see it run before I pull it. Really runs pretty good all things concerned, just tired.

Signalman, good way to get shot....
Buy a $100 geo storm and let her "Blow" that up. Sell the 4.0 and BTW post a video of her "Blowing" up the geo storm!
Where is the BeastMaster when you need him? This thread should be shut down immediately. Even I can see where this one is going.

Signalman I think you handled what everyone is going to be thinking very delicately. And you are one very funny SOB too.
My games always play better when I blow in them.

I say pull it and save it. Do a complete rebuild and bore it .030 over. New pistons have the head rebuilt by a creditable shop. This engine rebuild can also be a great parent/kid project in my eyes. I would love for my daughter to be that interested in helping with my Jeep.

P.s. I too agree this is going to start skirting the fine line between common discussions and people's comments being inappropriate.
Personally, I'd let your daughter blow it.

Would be interesting to see how long the motors on these last with good maintenance, but who knows how long it will take?

Agreed :thumb:

She can blow mine if she wants, too.:D
I think it would be a good testament how tough these motors really are. Without running it out of oil because that would be cheating see how much abuse it can take before actually seizing or throwing a rod.
I took the craigslist route and will let the next owner hear it run before I pull it. She has been there every step of the way on building the replacement. She's all girl by looks and intimidate the boys with her off road interests. She works on the jeep with me. She rides motorcross totally her own interest. She's the only one of her group of friends that can drive a manual boy or girl.

When I posted this I had no idea it would go the directing the small minded have taken it. I guess is shows the age and intelligence of some of our members.
I mean, you could have probably picked a little better wording for your title and post, you can't blame some people for poking some fun. Don't take it personal

Sounds like a good plan to me, and will new you some cash too. That is a lot of miles for these engines and pretty impressive, not sure how much you will get for it though.

That's crap because this is all on you. The original post was stupid and the fact I bet you didn't even preview the thread before you sent it just to see how it reads is the problem. From what I have just read you are deservedly proud of the young lady (who wouldn't be) but I'm sorry I saw this coming early this morning. Apologies for any insults it was just locker room behavior but not in any way acceptable by he members of this Forum.

I agree, you can't buy class. Daughters, wives, and mothers should be off limits when it comes to gutter talk.

Agreed, I could have chosen a different title. It was meant more as a light topic more than a serous question. With the miles this thing has gone through I figured it has earned a second shot at another life.

I am the second owner only putting maybe 1000 miles on myself. It was bought as a project. Two advantages, time with my daughter, keeps me away from the tv.

I'll relax now. :)
Sounds like a good reason to start a project. Take care :thumb: let us know how the build goes.
