Alright, so I have a 4-dr 2012 Wrangler and I'm thinking about getting the trail grappler tires. Trail Grappler I have 18" wheels.. Does anyone know how big of a lift I would have to get to install these tires?

Are you saying keep the stock rims? If so 285 will go without a lift but could have scrub at full flex and full lock turn. 295 will go with 2.5" lift but the same still applies with scrubing at full turn due to tire width. To clear this up you will either need a rim with more offset or go with 1.5" wheel adapter.

Keep the 18's, not everyone needs to be old school:whistling:

Yeah I want to keep the stock 18" rims because they're the mineral gray ones that come on the Freedom Edition.

I'm going with 285/70/17's on my stock rubi wheels with a teraflex 2/1 leveling kit for now. Trying to keep things mild while its our daily driver.

I went to the tire place today and the guy working there said that I could get 275, possibly 285 Trail Grapplers with a 2.5 or 3" lift. He said that the 295's would rub the front fender even with a lift. So I think I'm going to get a 3" lift and put some 275's on there just to be safe.

I just realized I actually have 17" rims.. Not 18". How will that affect the measurements the guy at the tire shop gave me?

the 17, 18 etc. is just the size of the hole in the middle. you need to be looking at overall height and width. STOCK rims do NOT have the proper off-set to eliminate rubbing regardless of lift height. It rubs on suspension components even when lifted. If you keep stock rims you WILL need an adapter to eliminat any rubbing. The lift will keep it off the fenders but not the suspension components.

Most tire places SELL tires, I would suggest talking with an offroad specialist.

On another note; I have rubbed (slightly) with a stock jeep at full flex while turning. just an FYI.

The guy told me that if I get 275 rather than 295 it won't rub. Is that inaccurate?

Ask him "won't rub what?". I have a stock 08 JKU. 255/75/17. I have scrubbed the front right tire against the sway bar. Mind you EVERYTHING was flexed to the max. 275 will not rub under normal driving conditions, this changes when you go offroad :)

The tightest system I have seen without rubbing has been a 2012JKU with 2.5" lift, 285/75/17 Trail Grapplers with a 12mm offset rim. Jeep on right in picture.

35x12.50R17 on 2.5'' AEV Dualsport lift and 1.5" wheel spacers

I had to trim the front air dam, pinch seem and rock rails. All easy stuff.
