I need to get a trailer hitch for my TJ, and although I won't be pulling any heavy trailers, I was wondering if it is worth getting a class III/IV hitch for a recovery point or just get the lighter duty I or II? Also, I saw some winch plates that go on receiver hitches...If you can only get 3500 lb rated hitches, how good is that for a 9000 lb winch? Doesn't compute, but I like the Idea of being able to remove the winch, or even put it on the other side...thanks for your input...

my grandpa has one of those 3500 winches with the same set up on his pickup (not for recovery) the only problem I have with it is that it weighs so much and it is about thigh (upper part of leg if i completely misspelled it) high so it is really awkward to hold it there and manuver it onto the little hitch. Also you would have to leave it in your garage becaeuse it can easily be stolen

and maybe the reason for not having a bigger winch, maybe how much it weighs, the hitch is not ment for having lots of weight on the tongue becasue the whole weight of the winch is about 1 foot back from where it goes into the hitch so abigger winch would put more strain up and down on the hitch, not back and forth, but i really cant answer why to this question.

Lastly if you wheel alone without even someone inn your car it will be impossible to move it becasue you really need someone to help lift it and guide it into the hitch

I am removing my hitch this weekend to add a rear bumper/tire carrier and the bumper has a built in hitch. So I'm thinking $25 bucks plus shipping if you want it. It's made by hidden hitch and I think it is rated for 3500lbs and has a 2" receiver. No ball included.

This is cool! But I am still wondering about the recovery point issue, I know the safety ratings are probably 1/2 of what it takes to damage things so I guess it'll be a good place to hook on?

Oh yeah. As a matter of fact, I yanked out a Rubicon three times today with that very hitch, with a hook in the receiver. ;)

Bad news guys. I ran into some issues with a VERY rusty bolt keeping me from getting my hitch out so that I could install the new bumper. I tried everything I could think of and in the end still wound up cutting it off. About the only thing it's good for now is the scrap pile. Sorry.
