Any ideas? I have not tapped on it with a hammer as I am worried about cracking the aluminum case. It's a '05 LJ with the NP 231.

I had a seized fill plug that was also stripped, I welded a 1/2" bolt to the plug and it came out effortlessly.

Thanks for the tips. Got some penetrating oil working on it now. I hope I don't have to go quite as extreme as welding a bolt on it (esp since I don't weld) but it's good to know there is another solution
