i have an 02 wrangler 2.5L speed with a bad transfer case. i was on car-part.com looking for a replacement and it shows that only 2000-2002 are compatible, i was wondering what the difference is between the 95-99 TC and the 00-02.
'95 and older are not as desirable as their output shaft is not sealed except when the driveshaft is in place. To find a replacement t-case that will bolt right in, you need one that came out of a '97 to '06 TJ with the 2.5L engine and same (5-speed or automatic) transmission as you have.
thanks... any idea why car-part.com would say only 00-02 is compatible? i'm just curious what the difference could be. either way, i picked up a TC from an 04 TJ 2.5L 5 speed with 19k miles for $200, my mechanic should be installing ti today so i will know if it works or not pretty soon
