Hello! I recently purchased my 2000 Sahara with 91k miles. Pretty good find. On the way home I found thin white smoke coming from the exhaust manifold and something was dripping on it. The color of the liquid was the same as the transmission fluid and the transmission fluid dip stick showed the level higher than max. I found a pipe above the exhaust manifold that looked very very wet and I assume it's coming from that. Anyone have this issue before and have any words of advice?

Looks like one of the the transmission oil cooler lines is leaking. It could be the line itself from rust perforation or at the fitting. Keep in mind that the flash point of ATF is lower than the operating temperature of your exhaust. That makes this is an imminent fire hazard. I would not drive again before this leak has been addressed.

The underside of this Jeep also has considerable rust. First thing I would do, aside from fixing that leak, is buy 5-6 cans of fluid film and saturate everything but the brake rotors and exhaust. This will keep the rust from spreading until you figure out what to do about it.

Good advice. I'd start looking for the leak where he mentioned.

I had a Transmission Cooler Line explode in an '06 Tahoe. Smoked out the entire vehicle and sprayed enough fluid to burn up the 2nd gear clutch pack. The lines were leaking just like your's are right now, so you may wan't to get some new lines in your recent purchase asap.

Damn alright. I'll get it fixed as soon as I get it registered. And I already planned on doing an oil undercoat to get the rust covered before winter rolls around. Finding rust free Jeeps up north is a challenge.
