Hey guys,

I have had my 99 jeep tj for a couple months now. I've been really happy with it until this weekend.

The transmission mount/skidplate fell on the driver's side. The 3 bolts fell through the rust. I felt the shifter drop about 1/2 inch when I was driving. I haven't driven it since because I can't engage some of the gears and I am really worried making worst than it already is.

I hope the pictures are clear enough.

I've been reading about the skid plate but have not been able to find a solution for this problem.

I was thinking about drilling holes through the plate and fastening it to the frame with square u-bolts. Would that do it? I am looking for a cheap solution since I am pretty short on cash right now and I need my car.

Thank you!

If the bolts pulled through the frame I would say it's frame repair work.
Have you checked the rest of the frame?

you are going to have to repair the frame at that location (at minimum)....my guess is the frame is probably in poor shape near the control arm mounts too.

Good decision not to drive it like that, you will do significant damage if you do.
+1 - from what I've seen this usually means time for a new frame...you may be lucky and just need repairs, but I doubt it.
