So I'm pretty new to the game having just bought my first Jeep a month ago. I have my 2000 TJ Sport 4.0 in the shop for a bad steering column. Found out the transmission and clutch are in worse shape than I thought. Can anyone ballpark the cost to replace both?

I believe you might have the nv3550 transmission.

What makes you say the tranny is in bad shape? Might just need some new
fluid to make it shift right again. What kind of problems are you experiencing? find out what fluid works best for your trans and give that a shot before tearing it down and rebuilding it/replacing it.

There are also other things to consider that could be be causing problems i.e. a bad master or slave cylinder. how many miles do you have on the jeep?

what issues are you having exactly?

to give you an idea of worse case scenario my clutch job was $500 and my tranny rebuild was 1200ish. My 97 came with the Ax-15 tranny though. At 167,xxx miles my transmission began fussing so I just went ahead and replaced it. I've heard that the NV3550's are more expensive to rebuild because rebuild parts are more difficult to come across? (can't confirm that, it's just what I've read elsewhere)
