I'm doing a complete teardown and rebuild of my YJ. The previous owner had done a complete V8 engine swap along with the auto transmission and an NP249 transfer case from a 1996 Cherokee 5.2.
So I think I have figured out which transmission it has (please correct me if I am wrong) I believe the transmission I am dealing with is a 44RE (it has electronic connectors all over it but none are used) I have tried doing some research and it looks like the 44RE will not work correctly since it is an electronic controlled transmission.
I have also heard that the 46RH transmission is basically the same transmission but it is all hydrolic type system. Again please correct me if I am wrong here...
I had already decided to go with an NP231 transfer on my project but now I am thinking about swapping the transmission to the 46RH. So my question is; if I switch to a 46RH will the NP231 bolt up to it? I figure this will be the easiest way to do things since I don't have any electronics to run the 44RE.
Any help on this would be great!!!
