for some reason i was looking under my jeep and i noticed a puddle of grease or oil (brownish) coming from the transmission or t-case...it is the huge silver thing just in front of the skid at the front of the jeep. in other words the first one from the front back (i believe its the tranny)...anyway, is this normal? i don't remember seeing any of that before

If it's right behind the engine, in front of the tranny, the way it sounds, it's probably the rear main seal on the engine leaking a little oil. You didn't say whether or not it's a large amount, but if it's just a few drops, it's no big deal because a lot of the sixes are known to have these leaks. Just check your oil more often. Even my jeep seeps a few drops here and there. If it's a lot, you may want a dealer or mechanic check it out.

nah i haven't...it looks like the leak is coming from the huge silver thing near the front halfway under the skid plate ( i think its the tranny) and it is just about two 3" puddles

I'm assuming it's your Tranny also, but lets look at it this way. Is it the piece that your rear drive shaft attaches to? Or is it further up directly behind the engine?

Could it be where the motor mounts to the tranny bec my old jeep leaked from there and i jus threw some heavier oil in there and it dripped less. If it is small and then prob go with the heavier oil because its a big job to replace the seal. I could be thinkin of somethin different then you so see what the others think too.

can offroading, mud cause this?
If you say it's coming off of where the driveshaft attaches to in the rear then that is your Transfer Case. You should be able to get up there with a flashlight and tell where it's leaking from. Could be coming from the rear output shaft seal.

Otherwise, since you are having a hard time with the diagnosis. Your jeep is an 06 right? Why don't you take it to the dealership and let them find it on your Factory Warranty?

This was going to be my suggestion as well. Why deal with the "what ifs" if you can have the stealership do it for free?
