I'm trying to drop the transmission pan on my wife's 2009 JK. I can't get to the bolts behind the exhaust crossover. I read some of the write-ups and they say that a 1/4 inch 10 mm socket with a universal joint should work but I can't get the universal joint to fit in the space between the pan and crossover. Any other ideas?

He is talking about the exhaust cross over, not the cross member. I used a selection of sockets and box end wrenches to get mine out.

Are you saying that you loosened the exhaust crossover or that you just worked around it? Thanks for responding.

I dropped it without loosening anything else. Like a said, an array of tools and a couple of hours, but I dropped it.
