So I've heard rumors here and there about the JKs getting a V8 option.

On one hand, it makes sense. I believe the TJ based AEV Brute development mule had a 5.7 Hemi in it and there's a place doing 5.7 Hemi swaps in the JKs and iirc the one Hemi-powered Rescue Green Unlimited the shop did for SEMA had factory backing.

Does anyone else know about these rumors?

Then with the JT, any updates on that? I've seen some new pictures pop up (in addtion to SEMA, the parking lot, and the "bathtub") and I was wondering if Jeep is putting out more feelers for the JT.

In addition, looking at the JT concept and the Gladiator concept, their front ends are almost identical.

The JT is pretty much the exact front end on the JK. It's an Egyptian model for the military. From everything I've seen and read there is a real chance that it could show up in the show room the next couple of years.

However that could all also be out the window with Chryslers new ownership.

why would a hemi in a jeep not run??? and why is it a piece of crap? mines been running hard and strong with zero failures averaging 16mpg in the city and 20 on the highway. better then my 4.0 in the jeep

I honestly hope they never put a V8 in the 2 door. I don't think it could safely be done with the light weight. Really other than BMW with the X5, who put a V8 in a similar sized vehicle.

Now the 4 door is a different story. That could be a possibility.

The 2Dr needs a slightly larger V6 though, like their 4.0l V6 thats in the works for 2010(?). The 4Dr I can see with a small V8 like a 4.7 or 5.2L. Of course the horse power will be there, but gas milage will be about the same... I mean come on, its a Wrangler :D

I would imagine the mileage would be better than the same engine would get in a larger heavier truck application.

But in all reality the 3.8 is just fine for the JK's. Enough power and torque to do what you need. But not enough to where it's an automatic hot rod.

The one I borrowed from my bud was 12 city, 17 highway, and that was a 2wd regular cab, long bed, driving fuel concious, on a good day. Had 20,000 mi. Please tell me how you got 16 put of yours, we must know! Thats the best mileage I have heard outa the hemi rams:)

Could be fun in a wrangler, but Id rather have a strong, gas sipping 6.

If the JT goes into production here in the states we just might have to budget one in and go talk to the dealership.:D I would still like to see a high torque diesel in one rather then a V-8 gas.

Jeep did put a 5.9 HO motor in the Cherokee a few years back but it didn't sell well. The Cherokee isn't all that heavy of a vehicle but it did have a longer wheelbase than the "Wranglers" did back then.

I can see Chrysler trying it again however I don't see it selling well.

They only put V8's in the Grand Cherokee's, with the 4.7/5.2 & even 5.9L.... and they are still doing it now. The Grand Cherokee is even offered with a 6.1L HEMI making 425Hp

I dont think they have the 5.2 & 5.9 in their current lineups. My research shows the following:

The Grand Cherokee comes with a 4.7L FlexFuel V8 (235 HP), 5.7L HEMI V8 (330HP) and the 6.1L SRT HEMI V8 (420 HP) and a tiny 3.7L V6 (210HP) and a 3.0L V6 CRD Turbo Diesel (215HP).

The Commander comes with a 4.7L V8 & a 5.7L HEMI V8 .. as well as 3.7L V6.

I would like to see the 4.7 become an option for the Unlimiteds and the 3.0 CRD an option for any Wrangler.. I would also like to see the 2 door Unlimiteds come back.

AZTJ,

Thanks for the info. I hadn't researched before I posted. I just remember the add on T.V. for the 5.9L here in So Cal. The equated it to an earthquake of 5.9 hitting So Cal.
