I have an 87/4.2L/5sp with the plastic valve cover. A PO has replaced the very back bolt on the cover with a stud and nut/washer, but he did a pretty crappy job of it.

Can someone tell me if the bolt that's supposed to go in the back is the same one as the 4 that go along the passenger side? Those bolts just seem too long for the back.

Thanks,

Some of the bolts on the valve cover are special studs for mounting hoses etc.

Yeah, my 89 with an aluminum cover has a pretty tall stud with nut and washer at the right hand/most rearward bolt position. Nothing attached to it as I bought it, but its there.

The parts manuals say that rear bolt is the same as the ones on the passenger side, but I don't see how. The holes in the valve cover on the passenger side have deep shoulders, like an inch or so, but the one in the back is pretty small, maybe 1/4 in. And by shoulders, I mean the distance from where the head of the bolt sits to where it threads into the engine head.
